Preparing for a Spring Break: ID Documents

For college students across the nation, Spring Break means drinking all day everyday, crazy beach parties, wet t-shirt contests and lots of scantily dressed coeds.

With that being said, we have to face the unfortunate fact that the world is no longer as safe as it used to be so you want to make sure and take all precautions necessary when getting ready to head out on your Spring Break adventure. Documents are a good start to doing just that.

Documentation

The last thing you want to happen is have your luggage turn up missing and find yourself stuck with what is on you. This can also happen the other way around. You could find that you placed your documents on a counter somewhere in an airport and simply left them behind. Now what do you do?

Well, the easiest solution is to make sure you CYOA (cover your own ass). Make two copies of your passport or ID along with any other papers or documents that your trip requires.

Then pack one copy with your check in luggage, and leave the other at home with someone you know. This way, if you lose the original and need to go to the embassy, you can provide proper documentation which will make the process go much smoother.

Resources

You’ll want to make sure that you are familiar with the destination before you arrive.

One way to do this is to make an extensive list of resources that you might possibly need in case if an emergency or in case you simply find yourself in a bind.

In this list you will want to have destination information such as embassy contacts, hospitals, maps, phone numbers, local laws, basic language, etc.

Your documents are absolutely vital and you do not want to take any shortcuts in preparing them. Take the suggested steps above and use common sense.

If you follow these simple guidelines, you should be fine and your trip will unfold with few worries.
