Survival Tips: Mexico
Spring Break is a wild and exciting college vacation experience that will create memories for a lifetime. We just want to be sure you’re the memories are good ones. So study up on our following Mexico survival tips. You might be quizzed on these—but this time your grade could last a lifetime.
Before you leave:
- Check US Travel Advisories for travel concerns and health concerns (vaccines, diseases, flu, etc.)
- Bring spare prescription medication and a first-aid kit.
- Also bring a trusted sun block brand, sunglasses, slippers for public swim areas and condoms.
At the hotel:
- Always be concerned with personal safety in your hotel/motel. With so many people around theft can occur at any time.
- If you can, room with a buddy or a friend. This will increase both your physical and personal property safety.
- Try not to invite strangers into your room. If you do, make sure you valuables are out of view.
Out on the town:
- Do not binge drink. Pace yourself.
- Try not to mix different types alcohol – stick to one type of beverage. Mixing intensifies alcohol’s effects and makes your hangover a living nightmare.
- Try to sober up before you go to sleep. This will reduce the chances of you drowning in your own vomit (a very unpleasant way to leave this earth).
- Do not consume too much alcohol under direct sunlight. If you do, make sure you work pure H20 into you beach regime.
- Beware of rape drugs. Girls are especially targeted. Do not leave your drink unattended. If you do, be safe and just get a new one.
In the bedroom:
- Always use condom—for any kind of sexual intercourse.
- Try not to have sex while consuming alcohol, as this will increase the chances that you will not use protection.
- Do not be embarrassed, ask your partner about their sexual history.
At the beach:
- Wear shades and a hat to avoid heatstroke.
- Always carry a water bottle with you.
- Drink water, especially if you are consuming alcohol.
- Remember, beer is not water.
- Watch the signs for dangerous currents.
